It would be a shame to see Dirty Den’s only decent transfer leave the struggling geordies, but that’s life.  The Sun’s quotes are dubious to say the best

I heard people talk about Arsenal being interested in me. I’m not too bothered about whether it is fact or fiction.

Wenger is in the market for a shiny new centre half, and Bassing is clearly one of the contenders. Whether a bid is made for Bassong depends on how the rest of the season pans out for him, and how it pans out for Newcastle. When they get relegated they’ll be in a weaker negotiation position.
