It looks like a fairly typical summer for the Reds, maybe 1 big signing in (David Silva, Fernando Torres, Robbie Keane), a couple of journeymen (Gareth Barry, Raul Albiol, Alvaro Arbeloa) and some young players that no one has ever heard from, and will never hear of again.

The other key highlight of today’s news from Liverpool is that both Dossena and Babel have the “willing to listen to offers”.  The Babel saga has been partly covered in another post, bit it’s not entirely surprising that he’s on his way out of Anfield.  On the other hand the Dossena transfer rumour is slightly more intriguing; he was bought as an attacking left back, he started the season very poorly, but has started to get better, including two cracking goals.  Our guess would be that Benitez views him as a saleable asset, with the emergence of Insua, and Fabio Aurelio starting to play very well, without getting injured after two games, a third left back is probably viewed as a luxury.  Given the crux of this article is the fact that in order to afford all his targets this season, Benitez is going to need to sell.

To return to the incoming transfer rumours, David Silva keeps popping up, Rafa has had his eye on this player for several seasons now, and just hasn’t had the spare cash to make a serious bid.  It seems that Rafa has identified the little forward as a key player, and he’d certainly add some guile and creativity to Liverpool’s forward line.

Gareth Barry, we can assume this one will go through.  Albiol is likely an option if Daniel Agger choses not to renew his contract.
