Who they need

God only knows. We had no idea who the manager of Portsmouth was, but this handy Wikipedia entry tells us what we need to know – his last managerial position was at Rushden and Diamonds. Given he’s just signed a 2 year contract, we can make assumptions of the expectations of the new Owners. On top of that, their willingness to sell their remaining prize asset, Crouchigol, it seems Pompey are in for another rocky season.

What does that mean in terms of the transfer market? Well it seems unlikely that they’re willing to splash the cash this summer. This is best exemplified by the story that they’re looking at 33 year old Steve Finnan to replace Glen Johnson. If this was 4 years ago, then it would be an excellent trade for Pompey, sadly, it’s not.

The list of potential transfers is a mixed bag of nobodies and old people, and if they’re not careful, John Portsmouth Football Club Westood may find himself supporting a team in the championship.

They need everyone they’ve got, and a whole lot more to avoid relegation. And no, no one here supports Southampton.
