Nemanja Vidic to Real Madrid

Nemanja Vidic doesn't seem to think playing alongside Pepe is that appealling.

Real Madrid, another team who’s defensive lineup could *ahem* use some improvements. As mentioned previously, having been thoroughly eviscerated by Barca this season, Real have a lot of catching up to do. The return of Florentino Perez is indicative of a return to the golden age of Galacticos, when Real didn’t necessarily win everything, but they played some nice football, won a few things and sold a load of shirts. With two noteable exceptions, Vidic has been one of the better defenders in the world, and deserves some of the credit for United breaking the premier league clean sheets record this season.

Similar to the previously mentioned Barca rumours, the Real move doesn’t seem likely, with Vidic pretty adamant he’s not moving, his agent Silvano Martina stating:

“…(T)here are no prerequisites for Vidic leaving Manchester,”

“Despite the Champions League final loss, he is at a great club with much ambition, and which has reached the final of the greatest European competition for two consecutive years. “

Which perhaps loses something in translation (Prerequisites?) but we can take as being unequivocal that Vidic is not moving.

However, the Indy has a slightly different impression of the situation, trotting out the bog-standard “Bird hasn’t settled” clause:

It is understood Vidic’s wife has failed to adapt to life in England and would prefer to move to a hotter climate and new Real President Florentino Perez is ready to make his move.

Which sounds a little dubious, but they seem pretty adamant that they’re in with a chance of signing the big Serb and are going to be waving big wads of cash in the face of Vidic, Martina and Fergie to do their best to make this happen.

This story doesn’t seem to have been reported in any other papers, which would make it seem a little more unlikely. Nevertheless watch this space.
