Another complete clanger from News of the World, the article is interesting for the amusingly disheveled photo of Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, but has been amusingly rejected completely by the folk at Celtic. It’s clear that the editors at News of the World are still of the opinion that Michael Owen still sells papers, what’s not clear is who is responsible for making up this complete travesty.

After some internal consulting, this is the only plausible scenario that we could come up with:

News of the world reporter is drunk and depressed in the Griffin on friday, no leads this week, time to drown sorrows
News of the world reporter runs into equally drunk and depressed sports agent, summer is coming up and no deals are in the pipeline
Agent and reporter look at boobies for a while
Agent and reporter decide to concoct a scheme to engineer a transfer
Agent and reporter try to figure out a down and out former superstar who would be looking for a move
Agent and reporter try to figure out a club that a down and out former superstar might like key requirements include winning silverware and champions league
Agent and reporter look at boobies for a while
Michael Owen to Celtic! Of Course

Sadly for dumb and dumber, the rumour was rejected outright within 24 hours of it being launched, so it’s back to the Griffin. That being said, there’s a whole lot more lies in News of the World this week that’s equally untrue, so they can console themselves that many others are in the same boat
