Joe Ledley to Everton

Since the Bluebirds missed a promtion place, the Mirror seems to think that Cardiff are ready to cash in on one of their prize assets, and Everton are apparently the Welsh wingers destination of choice. It’s not hard to imagine, considering his other options are Stoke and West Brom, but we digress. Moyes has had considerable success in developing players in from lower leagues (Cahill, Lescott etc) and with a place in the Euro Vase guaranteed thanks to their FA cup defeat, they’re an attractive option. Moyes is also keen to reinforce his small squad, add a left sided midfielder and bring some young legs in, and Ledley fulfills all of these criteria. The Mirror notes that the Everton manager is keen to ‘rush’ through the deal, so we’d expect this transfer to be completed sooner rather than later.

Ledley can also play in the centre of midfield and at left back; flexibility is a key feature that Moyes looks for in his players. As a testiment to his potential, he was picked in the Championship team of the year for 2008-09.

The only thing that might complicate this transfer is that Dave Jones wants to bring some players in on loan. There are however a number of young players at Everton who could benefit from a years experience playing full time, and it sounds like Cardiff can have anyone as long as it’s Victor Anichebe.

  2. Daily Football Transfer Rumours Dot Com Says:

Well you’d be able to get rid of him as he’d be on loan, but take your point about the depth of strikers. Maybe Anichebe can add a little bit of pace and trickery that the other strikers can’t?
