Another transfer rumour that has been floating around the ether for quite some time, ever since Mourinho landed at Inter, there have been murmurs that he has had a hankering for the Spurs midfielder. And while this keeps popping up, as the season goes on, the likelihood of Mourinho lasting another season at Inter looks significantly smaller. He was brought in to win the champions league, and while he might have earned a reprieve if inter had reached the final or at least the semis, this has not happened. The only thing that could conceivable keep him there would be the complete lack of decent targets, with the bright young thing of Serie A management with Cagliari’s Massimiliano Allegri lined up to replace Ancelotti at Milan, and all other champions league managers seemingly well tenured at their respective clubs, they might be stuck with the mouthy Portuguese for another season.
This is a fairly roundabout way of saying that in spite of Mourinho’s shaky career prospects at Inter, he may just squeeze another season out of it. One of the problems that has faced him is a lack of dynamism, which has been crucial to the successful Mourinho teams of the past (Tiago, Essien, Lampard etc). Jenas presumably presents an attainable package that offers the kind of box to box midfielder that could provide energy in the centre of the park that has been missing. Jenas also offers youth and a general feeling of untapped potential, which Mourinho presumably believes he can develop to fruition.
The rumour has appeared 20 times in 10 major news outlets since the start of the year, which would lead us to believe there is some truth to it.
