Now we certainly don’t wish to cast aspersions in the direction of the quality rag that News of the World is, but what is interesting is that these stories never appear anywhere else. What’s also interesting is the quotes (i.e. actual ) are extremely thin on the ground. We have are quotes from renowned gobshite Ramon Calderon and Ronaldo’s Godfather (honestly) talking about Cristiano Ronaldo going to Real Madrid in the article about Franck Ribery, and Pepe and ‘a spanish source’ talking about Ronaldo wanting to play at the Bernebeu in the Ronaldo article. In the other two articles, there are no quotes whatsoever, indeed no indication that in fact that any of the news has come from anywhere other than the minds of the journalists.

Now the point we’re building towards here is as follows, every Sunday, News of the World tries to have a headline exclusive football transfer rumour to sell papers. What’s interesting based on this (admittedly fairly shallow) analysis, is that the usual requirements of journalism, i.e. indication of the source of story, seem to be largely ignored to get the story in the paper. While we could speculate on the reasons for this, the facts stand for themselves.

While it may be that some, or all of these stories are true, the lack of any attempt to demonstrate that these stories are legitimate is a testament to the complete lack of quality coming from News of the World.
