Is David Silva the man to fill Ronaldo's boots at Old Trafford?

In spite of protests to the contrary, it’s really really difficult to believe that Fergie won’t be making at least 1 major purchase this season. The latest name being bandied about is Valencia’s David Silva.  Silva is a significant talent, and would fit in well in any team.  Given Ronaldo’s left, presumably Rooney is going to move to a more central role, which leaves the Red Devils down two who can play on the left.  Silva can play on the left or as a withdrawn striker / playmaker, and while he’s not as prolific as Ronaldo, his game is about creativity and guile, which Man Utd are going to need if they’re going to be able to break down smaller teams.  Again, with Ronaldo and Tevez gone, the goals against teams that park the bus are going to be harder to find.

Valencia are in dire financial straights, and their initial unwillingness to part with the little forward may have recently been tempered by the seeming lack of buyers for their other prize asset, David Villa.  The expectation was that he was on his way to Madrid or Barca, but with Barca bringing in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Real bringing in everyone else combined with his apparent refusal to move to the UK, it may be that Villa stays on at Valencia.  If this is the case, then the sale of Silva may be necessary for the survival of Los Che.  Fergie faces significant competition from Liverpool for Silva, but has the benefit of having a whole lot more money.
