David Bentley to Aston Villa

Is David Bentley on his way to Aston Villa?
The mirror contends that Bentley could be pulling on the sky blue and claret next season at Villa park. In an exceedingly brief article, it suggests that there could be some kind of swap deal mooted for Gareth Barry.
On the surface this is believeable. In spite of the fact that Bentley has been rubbish since he joined Spurs, he put in a decent shift at Blackburn over a number of seasons, and was coveted by many top clubs. So there would seem to be untapped potential there.
O’Neill must also be keen to bolster his ranks, with the massive drop off of form experienced by Villa in the second half of the season due largely to the miniscule team running out of steam. If Villa want to not only improve their league place but step up in domestic and european leagues, they’re going to need a much bigger squad.
It could also soften the blow of the assumed departure of Gareth Barry, which is mentioned in the article, with a replacement in the form of an established England international.
However, to be honest it just sounds too good to be true, swap deals almost never come off, particularly when players of significant value are involved. It seems more like the sort of story Mr Redknapp might leek to his press buddies to see how the folk at Aston Villa react. Redknapp has no need or want for Bentley and is in the market for Gareth Barry, and views this as a potential leverage for getting the player.
