Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona
Wednesday, 07. 1. 2009 – Category: Arsenal, Barcelona, La Liga, Premier League

This rumour has the unfortunate potential to turn into the Gareth Barry to Liverpool Transfer Saga of 2009™.
To make things easier, let’s do a recap on the action to date:
- September 2003: Fabregas signs as a 16 year old for Arsenal from Barcelona’s Youth Team
- 2002-3 Arsenal win Premier League
- 2004-5 Arsenal win Premier League
- 2005-6 Arsenal win nothing
- 2006-7 Arsenal win nothing
- 2007-8 Arsenal win nothing
- 2008-9 Arsenal win nothing
- 15 June 2009, Fabregas expresses that a call from his ‘idol’ Pep Guardiola, “would be special“, he goes on to say “If Guardiola called me it would be different. I would be delighted to go. Pep was a role model for me. He was my footballing hero when I was small.“
- 25 June 2009, Cesc Fábregas pledges future to Arsenal despite trophy drought, he goes on to say “For anyone who is unclear or may have misunderstood what my position is, let me make myself absolutely crystal clear. I am wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal and my future lies with this great club.”
- 26 June 2009, Fabregas’s Spanish Team Mate, who plays for Treble winning Barcelona, says “Cesc will end up wearing the Barca shirt, I’ve always said that. Even if he doesn’t want to admit it, I’ve always told him the same thing.“
- 1 July 2009, after seemingly missing out on their main target, Franck Ribery, Barcelona set their sites on Fabregas, which in iteself is a little odd as their hardly like for like, but is seemingly consistent with Guardiola’s slightly scatter gun approach to players, (See De Rossi for Mascherano)
It seems that Fabregas is committed to the Arsenal cause, but he has provided Barca with a pretty specific way to get his interest. It’s not necessarily squeaky bum time for Gooners, but it will be interesting to watch this unfold over the summer.

The performance by Fabregas at the latest Liverpool match was fabulous. Plus, the way he took control of the situation in the half-time break in the locker room is just impressive.
